The Seige is Over, 2nd marathon bomber captured alive after brother killed in shoot-out PICTURES

One of the Boston bombing suspects is captured after exchanging gunfire with police for an hour while holed up in a boat.

COPS hunting fugitive Dzhokhar Tsarnaev finally snared him after a woman reported finding a pile of bloody clothes in her shed.

The crazed 19-year-old Boston Marathon bomber had been on the run for 8½ hours after his brother died after a terrifying shootout with police.  He is in a serious condition and has been taken to Massachusetts General Hospital.  Cops trapped Tsarnaev as he hid in a boat in the woman’s back garden in the Watertown district after she reported that it had been “cleared” with her shed earlier that day.  He was spotted by a police helicopter which used a heat-seeking camera to confirm his location — and was feared to be wearing an IED bomb-vest.  the boat in a backyard in Franklin Street, Watertown, where Tsarnaev took refuge Hiding spot ... the boat in a backyard in Franklin Street, Watertown, where Tsarnaev took refuge  Officers raced to Franklin Street where armed police fired up to 30 shots in a short gun battle.  One cop was heard saying: “There is definite movement in the rear of that boat. He stood up.”  A witness said: “We saw the Swat team get out and spread out all around the house and then the shots were fired.”  Eight explosions were heard, thought to be flash bang grenades, designed to disorientate the suspect.  Ambulances rushed to the scene, and a robot bomb disposal squad was then sent into the area to check for explosives.  There were also fears last night that the boat was filled with fuel.  The stand-off happened moments after Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick lifted a “stay at home” ban.

An army of TEN THOUSAND police, FBI and national guard had hunted the surviving brother across Boston — after a trail of havoc by the ethnic Chechen terrorists yesterday left one officer dead and another fighting for life.
It emerged last night that older brother Tamerlan was quizzed by the FBI in 2011 after a request by an unidentified foreign government.

But officials failed to find any “derogatory” information on him.
Up to a million residents had been told to hole up indoors yesterday as the ensuing dragnet saw the city go into virtual lockdown — with fleets of armoured vehicles cruising the streets.
Helicopters hovered as Boston again resembled a warzone — five days after two bombs killed three and injured 176 at the marathon.
The chilling scenes came after cop Sean Collier, 26, became the FOURTH victim killed by the fanatical duo — both Muslims and ethnic Chechens.
The officer, on night patrol at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, was investigating reports of a disturbance.
Just hours earlier cops had released close-ups of two suspects caught on film minutes before the bombs at the marathon went off.
Both were touting rucksacks — containing explosives that had been packed into pressure cookers. The murdered officer was shot dead in his car by medical student Tsarnaev and his brother Tamerlan, 26 — who had been at a 7-Eleven convenience store as it was robbed.
The two cop killers then turned carjackers, forcing a terrified man at the wheel of a Mercedes SUV to drive them from the scene.
He was held for 30 minutes as the pair used his cashcard to withdraw $800, or £525, before being dumped unharmed at a petrol station.

Meanwhile Swat teams and national guard troops had joined cops pouring into the suburb of Watertown — six miles from the city centre. During a high-speed chase the brothers shot at their pursuers and threw explosives.
One resident who saw the bloody climax as the fleeing vehicle pulled over told of seeing two men using it as a shield to fire a dozen cops.
Andrew Kitzenburg told how the gunmen fired at a police SUV as it drove towards them at 1am.
The vehicle rolled to the side of the road, crashing into two cars in his drive. The two maniacs then hurled a bomb at the line of police as 200 rounds of ammo were exchanged.
Andrew said: “They lit it and threw it. It went 20 yards at most. The device did explode. One of the men ran towards the police officers and was tackled.”

That was the older brother, who was taken to hospital dying from blast injuries and bullet wounds.
The younger one leapt into the SUV — and drove it at the police.
Andrew said: “The car went right through the cops — broke right through.”
Critically-wounded officer Richard Donahue, 33, was rushed to hospital as colleagues brought in robots to deal with backpacks left at the scene. Seven home-made explosives, including a pressure cooker bomb like the one used in the marathon attack, were found.
Cops fearing bombs could be triggered by mobiles screamed at newsmen at the scene: “Turn off your phones if you want to live.”

Last night police fanned out from the suburb to search every home for the fugitive. An explosive trigger was said to have been found on his sibling’s body, fuelling fears he had rigged himself as a human bomb.
He was barely nine when he and his brother went to live in the US. They grew up in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where their mum was said to be one of two people arrested.
Dad Anzor now lives in Dagestan, southern Russia, where he was grilled by secret service agents.
President Vladimir Putin was kept updated — as was Barack Obama. Anzor insisted his sons were innocent — and told how they reassured him when he phoned after the marathon was bombed: “Everything is good, Papa.” Speaking in Dagestan the father begged his youngest: “Give up. Come home.”
Earlier the bombers’ uncle Ruslan Tsarni said: “Turn yourself in and ask for forgiveness.”

How pair fought to get away

THURSDAY 5.20pm local time: FBI release images of two suspects, now known to be Tamerlan and Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.
10.20pm: The pair are at a MIT campus store in Cambridge district as it is robbed and shoot dead cop Sean Collier as he sits in his cruiser.
10.30pm: Bombers carjack a Mercedes SUV and force driver to try three cashpoints in the area, drawing out $800 (£525).
11pm: Driver is released at a petrol station. Police chase the car towards Watertown district. Officer Richard Donahue is shot and taken to hospital in a critical condition.
Midnight: Huge gunfight around Laurel St and Dexter St in Watertown, with the bombers sheltering behind the SUV. Tamerlan Tsarnaev is repeatedly hit and detonates his suicide vest.
4.30am: Police quarantine Watertown and warn residents to stay in their homes.
8am: Authorities release name and pictures of the brothers. Entire city of Boston is “locked down” with all public transport halted. Flights to and from the city are suspended. At least 9,000 police are involved in the hunt.
Noon: Two Black Hawk military helicopters join the hunt in Watertown.

Boston Marathon Explosion (Updates & Pictures) 3 Dead 140 injured.

Three people have been killed and more than 140 others hurt after two bombs exploded during the Boston Marathon.

The blasts ripped through the crowd near the finish line of what is the world's oldest marathon.

They took place almost simultaneously about 100m apart, knocking spectators and at least one runner off their feet.

In Pictures: Boston Marathon
Spectators' cheers turned to screams and a pool of blood formed on the ground.

Windows were shattered and dense plumes of smoke rose over the street.

More than 25,000 people were registered as taking part in the race, 374 of whom were British. There were also 108 Irish athletes.

The Associated Press reported that an eight-year-old boy was among the dead. Of the 144 reported injured, 17 are critical.

Live Updates: Boston Marathon
Barack Obama vowed to find and punish those responsible, as a senior White House official said the attacks were being treated as an act of terrorism.

Mr Obama pointedly avoided using the words "terror" or "terrorism", saying officials "still do not know who did this or why".

But he vowed: "We will find out who did this. We'll find out why they did this. Any responsible individuals, any responsible groups, will feel the full weight of justice."

The explosions happened about two hours after the men's winner had crossed the line, as amateur runners were reaching the finish.

More than 17,000 competitors had completed the race by the time the blasts struck but thousands of others were still taking part.

TV helicopter footage showed blood on the pavement in the popular shopping and tourist area known as the Back Bay.

Runners in the medical tent being treated for dehydration or other race-related problems were pushed out to make room for bombing victims.

Security Response
A woman near the second bomb, Brighid Wall, 35, said runners and spectators had frozen, unsure of what to do.

Her husband threw their children to the ground, lay on top of them and another man lay on top of them and said, "Don't get up, don't get up."

She said she saw six to eight people bleeding profusely, including one man who was kneeling, dazed, with blood coming down his head. Another person was on the ground covered in blood and not moving.

"My ears are zinging. Their ears are zinging. It was so forceful. It knocked us to the ground," she said.

Runner Tim Davey, from Virginia, was with wife Lisa and their children in a medical tent set up for exhausted runners. "They just started bringing people in with no limbs," he said.

Roupen Bastajian, 35, a state police officer from Rhode Island, had just finished the race and been handed a heat blanket when he heard the blasts.

"I started running toward the blast. And there were people all over the floor," he said. "We started grabbing tourniquets and started tying legs.

"A lot of people amputated. ... At least 25 to 30 people have at least one leg missing, or an ankle missing, or two legs missing."

There were reports of a third blast at the JFK library a few miles away but that was later confirmed as a fire that was believed to be unrelated to the blasts.

A senior US intelligence official said another two unexploded bombs were found near the end of the 26.2mile (42km) course but had been safely disarmed.

No one has yet been arrested, although officers reportedly searched an apartment in the Boston suburb of Revere on Monday night.

Massachusetts State Police confirmed a search warrant related to the investigation had been granted for the suburb but gave no further details.

A no-fly zone was also put in place over the city as security was tightened and flights bound for Boston's Logan International Airport were briefly held up at other airports.

At the White House, the Secret Service expanded its security perimeter - although it was not put on complete lockdown.

The Boston marathon is held on Patriots Day, a Massachusetts state holiday which commemorates the first battles of the American Revolution in 1775.

It attracts more than 500,000 spectators and ends in the heart of central Boston.

People were asked to stay indoors or return to their hotels as bomb squads methodically checked parcels and bags left along the route.

Boston Police Commissioner Edward Davis said the authorities had received "no specific intelligence that anything was going to happen".

At Massachusetts General Hospital, Alisdair Conn, chief of emergency services, said: "This is something I've never seen in my 25 years here ... this amount of carnage in the civilian population. This is what we expect from war."

British police are now reviewing security plans for this Sunday's London Marathon - the next major international marathon.

The London race's chief executive, Nick Bitel, expressed shock and sadness at the Boston attack - saying "it is a very sad day for athletics and for our friends in marathon running".

Prime Minister David Cameron wrote on Twitter: "The scenes from Boston are shocking and horrific - my thoughts are with all those who have been affected."

Boston Police said there is a helpline in the US for concerned relatives: 617 635 4500, and anybody with information about the blasts should call 1 800 494 tips.

The UK consulate in Boston said British Nationals in need of emergency consular assistance should call the Global Response Centre on 1 877 854 6872.

Breaking News : Terrorist attack on America : Two explosions at the finish line of the Boston Marathon. Multiple casualties are reported

 - Two Dead Twenty Three Injured
 - U.S. Federal Aviation Administration creates no-fly zone over site of Boston marathon following explosions
Many people have reportedly been injured after two explosions at the finish line of the Boston Marathon.
About three hours after the winners crossed the line, there was a loud explosion on the north side of Boylston Street, just before the photo bridge that marks the finish.
Another explosion could be heard a few seconds later.
There were two boom sounds heard from inside the Fairmount Copley Plaza Hotel.
Race officials have locked down the hotel.
A photo has emerged which appeared to show the moment one of the blasts took place.
Police made their way through competitors as they ran towards the scene.
Bloody spectators were being carried to the medical tent that had been set up to care for tired runners.
"There are a lot of people down," said one man, whose marathon number identified him as Frank Deruyter, who was not injured.
But marathon workers were carrying one woman, who did not appear to be a runner, to the medical area whose leg was hurt.
A Boston police officer was taken from the course with a bleeding leg injury.

DEVELOPING: Multiple casualties are reported after at least two explosions were heard near the finish line of the Boston Marathon, according to the Boston Herald.
Witnesses reportedly heard two booms that sounded like two claps of thunder near the finish line inside the Fairmount Copley Plaza Hotel.
The explosions occurred just before 3 p.m. Video of the scene showed a number of emergency crews in the area tending to victims and blood on the ground near the finish line.
"I saw two explosions. The first one was beyond the finish line. I heard a loud bang and I saw smoke rising," Boston Herald reporter Chris Cassidy, who was running in the marathon, told the newspaper. "I kept running and I heard behind me a loud bang. It looked like it was in a trash can or something...There are people who have been hit with debris, people with bloody foreheads.”
A photographer with Fox affiliate WFXT reported seeing a number of victims with lost limbs.

The First Traditional African gay weddin! [Video]

A gay couple in South Africa have married in a wedding ceremony uniting Zulu and Tswana traditions, which they hope will send a message to others that “Being gay is as African as being black.”

Tshepo Cameron Modisane and Thoba Calvin Sithole, both 27, met several years ago while studying in Durban, but lost contact with each other.

A chance meeting in a gym in the suburbs of Johannesburg led to them becoming training partners, then a couple. After three years as boyfriends Mr Modisane proposed in June 2012.
South Africa legalised same-sex marriage in 2006, but the pair still drew media attention as the area’s “first legal gay wedding”.
On 6 April the pair were married in a ceremony drawing on traditions from both Mr Modisane’s Tswana and Mr Sithole’s Zulu ancestry. Both wore traditional regalia, asked their ancestors for blessing, and a cow was slaughtered. Gifts were presented to the parents of both men as thanks for raising them.
Speaking to ENCA at the ceremony, Mr Modisane said the wedding went “against the idea that being gay isn’t African. Being gay is as African as being black.”
Mr Modisane said: “People are still ashamed because the vast majority of the black community is not accepting of being a homosexual. They see it as largely being a ‘Western trend’ that is in fashion lately.”
The couple hope their wedding sets an example against this view, said Mr Modisane: “If people are inspired by our love and actions and want to do the same to follow in our footsteps then we don’t mind being labelled as ‘role models’ in the LGBTI community.”
Mr Sithole agreed: “Hiding who we are is what makes people judge us even more and makes them not accept us for who we are. If we can just live life openly then in time people will get used to the idea that gay and lesbian people are part of society and we are here to stay.”
In February this year the pair told MambaOnline that being out to their parents and having the support of their families was one of the best aspects of their relationship.
“The great step that we took in our relationship as a gay couple was introducing each other to our families. We are so blessed to have supportive families who care about us. Even though we are gay they still love us,” said Mr Modisane.
“Family is important to us and that is the number one reason why we want to have children,” said Mr Sithole.
“We also want our children to grow up in an environment where they are loved greatly by both parents who appreciate them.”
The men will go by the double-barreled surname Sithole-Modisane in future.

Margaret Thatcher Iron Lady of Britain died this morning at the age of 87, after suffering a stroke. Life story and pictures

BARONESS Margaret Thatcher died this morning at the age of 87, after suffering a stroke.

Political figures from around the world have paid tribute to Britain's first and only female PM.
Here we take a look at how a grocer's daughter from Lincolnshire ended up in Number 10.
A young Margaret Roberts got her first taste of politics from her greengrocer father Alfred.
As well as running two shops in Grantham, Lincolnshire, Alfred was a Methodist preacher and active in the local community.
An independent, with liberal leanings, he went onto become Mayor of Grantham from 1945 to 1946.
By this time Margaret was studying Chemistry at Oxford University and developing a passion for politics herself.
The same year her dad was ousted from Grantham Town Hall, Margaret was elected president of the Oxford University Conservative Association.
She was spotted as a future prospect by Tory bigwigs during a party conference in Wales.
They fast-tracked her to compete for the safe Labour seat of Dartford at the tender age of 25.
She lost at both general elections in 1950 and 1951, but took a big chunk out of the Labour majority, further impressing party leaders.
he same year she tasted a second defeat in Dartford, Margaret married businessman Denis Thatcher.
Starting a theme that would prevail through her career, Denis became Margaret's 'rock', supporting her as she trained to become a barrister.
And again when she returned to politics in 1959 - finally elected as the Member of Parliament for Finchley in London.
And Denis was by Margaret's side when she was handed the keys to Number 10 two decades later.
The rising star of the Conservatives made a successful bid for the party leadership after they were ousted from office in 1974.
She then swept to power in 1979 becoming Britain's first female PM.
Margaret Thatcher's time in power is defined by a number of major events, which would shape the face of Britain.
First came the Falklands War in 1982.
The Prime Minister acted swifty to declare war on Argentina, after the South American country occupied the British south Atlantic territory.
Her decisive action, as well as her fierce attack of Communist Soviet Union, earned her the nickname 'The Iron Lady', a monicker that would stick with her until her death.
In 1984 she would live up to the name when she survived the IRA bombing of Brighton's Grand Hotel where the Conservative Party conference was taking place.
Five people were killed in the blast, but Margaret and Denis escaped unscathed and were dramatically lead from the rubble.
Her reign will also be defined by her committment to privatisation and reducing the power of the trade unions.
In 1984 she closed down 20 coal mines, putting 20,000 miners out of work.
In protest, two-thirds of the country's miners downed their tools.
But Mrs Thatcher refused to negotiate with union leader Arthur Scargill, resulting in a bitter and violent year-long strike.
While she was making enemies a home, the PM was better at making friends abroad.
United in their hatred of ccommunism, she formed a close friendship with American president Ronald Reagan.
The pair made regular transatlantic trips, and relations between the two countries have never been stronger.
n one of her final act as PM, Mrs Thatcher showed her appetite for the controversial once more, by unveiling a new poll tax.
The flat-rate tax for all adults was vastly unpopular, particularly among the working classes, and it lead to angry riots across the UK.
It was quietly replaced with the council tax, a year after she left office.
Mrs Thatcher remained a backbench MP for two years after she left Number 10 - serving under new leader John Major - before leaving the Commons, aged 66.
She was made a Baroness by the Queen after retiring from her seat and became regular fixture in the House of Lords.
She wrote two memoirs and continued to play a role in politics, controversially supporting former Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet, citing his support of Britain during the Falklands.
In recent years, Baroness Thatcher's public appearances have been rare, as she battled with dementia.
She made her last public appearance to celebrate her 87th birthday in October 2012.
